Loads of small businesses are using free PDFs to capture email addresses but most of them aren’t worth the time it takes to read them
These businesses will talk about providing value but unless you are seeing a clear trend of email sign ups and business coming from your content strategy then your PDF probably sucks too!
When you create something free to give away you need to make sure it is
a) useful to your target customers
b) interesting to them
If it’s not useful when they download it, you’ve burned a relationship already and probably lost some trust
When it’s not interesting then they probably won’t download it and read it so you’ve wasted your time creating it
A quick rule of thumb for creating a free give away try and find something that customers would actually pay for
Then put in the work to make it as good as something that you would actually charge for!
